Problems with the 991.1 GT3's 3.8-liter engine were apparent right from the start. Shortly after the release of the car, Porsche issued a recall for all GT3 models in March 2014. That notice came as a result of loosened screw joints on the connecting rods. The issue ultimately caused two cars to suffer engine fires.
Some sources put total production for the 997.2 GT3 RS coupes with the 3.8-liter engine at approximately 1,619 units, a mere 100 of which are said to have been produced for the 2011 model year, making it among the rarest of 911 models produced in any given model year.
The GT3 RS and S/T models get tuned up to 518 horsepower and come with more aero elements to increase downforce to stick them to the road. The GT3 RS comes with an outrageous rear wing that incorporates a drag-reduction system similar to those on Formula 1 race cars.
Its wide model range varies substantially in price but the hardcore GT3 variant is the top performer. This hardcore track car will hold on to 63.31 per cent of its initial value, while the roofless Targa variant is the worst performer of the line-up at a rate of 47.7 per cent.
With up to 640 horsepower, the Turbo S is a lot more powerful, and significantly faster, than anything in the GT3 lineup. A Turbo S Coupe can run from 0 to 60 in a lightning-fast 2.6 seconds. The GT3 RS can manage the same feet in a still-impressive 3.0 seconds.
Flat out, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS managed to reach 190 mph (305 km/h), which is actually a tad higher than the official top speed of 184 mph (296 km/h). However, modern speedometers tend to show a slightly higher speed than the real one.
While the 911 GT3 offers a more balanced option for everyday use and the thrill of the track, the GT3 RS leans decisively towards pursuing record lap times on the circuit, with significant enhancements in power, aerodynamics, and weight.
These are the 2007–08 997.1 GT3 RS 3.6 (452 for U.S. and Canada out of 1,169 worldwide), the 2010–11 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8 (612/1,500), the 2011 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 (157/600), the 2016 991.1 GT3 RS 4.0 (1,530/4,520) and the 2019 991.2 GT3 RS 4.0 (1,760/4,750).
Yes, you can. I would recommend finding roads that are pretty smooth. Porsche is actually pretty good at building extreme performance cars that can still be streetable, but it's not to everyone's taste to actually use them in this way.
RS is short for the German RennSport, literally "racing sport" in English. The "RS" moniker, and the characteristic lightweight blue or red wheels and "GT3 RS" side stickers link the 996 GT3 RS to historically important Porsches such as the Carrera 2.7 RS of the early 1970s.
The Porsche 911 GT3 isn't known for poor reliability, but there are certainly things to look out for. Not long after the first cars hit the road, numerous owners reported engine issues, ranging from misfires to catastrophic failure.
(Porsche) is recalling certain 2022-2023 911 GT3 Touring vehicles. A software error in the rear spoiler control unit may allow both the vehicle and spoiler center high-mounted brake lights to activate simultaneously when the rear spoiler is manually deployed at speeds below 56 MPH (90 km/h).
You should at the very least expect your Porsche vehicle to last 100,000 miles, but some drivers can get more than that out of their vehicles. Under the best circ*mstances, a Porsche could last you for 150,000 miles or around 10 years.
