Sometimes, you’re confronted with incontrovertible facts of life. Truths you weren’t aware of, but that appear fully formed and inarguable. The replies to this morning’s Question Of The Day, when we asked for your favorite purple cars, made one of those facts known: Purple is, unquestionably, the best car color. Sure, yellow and orange are fun, but purple cars seem to come factory-equipped with two turntables and a microphone — because they’re where it’s at.

That’s the worst joke I’ve ever made and I’m sorry.

A Mauve Miura
Also the best orange car.
Is there any color in which the Miura isn’t the best-looking car? The Datsun Z gives it a run for its money in orange, white, and sky blue, but it’s a tough decision to make.

A Plum Crazy Purple Challenger
Plum Crazy anyone?
Dodge, Chrysler, Mopar, FCA, Stellantis: No matter the name, the colors are constantly fantastic. You look at the new Wrangler in its Tuscadero paint, and tell me an automaker that has a better current color choice. I’ll wait.

A Mystichrome Mustang
The Mystic Chrome Mustang Cobras aren’t bad either.
“Not bad” is underselling Mystichrome. This is the American Midnight Purple, all of the color-changing with an added dose of bald eagle. Even the seats in these Mustangs were color-matched. That’s dedication.

A Techno Violet Three Series
BMW Technoviolet
The E36 was actually available in multiple purples, but Techno Violet seems to have the biggest fanbase. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Just look at it.

A Purple Prowler
There is only one car where purple was like the main color it came in:
When I was a kid, I used to have one of those pull-back-and-release toy cars of a purple Prowler. In retrospect, it didn’t really capture the depth, flake, or actual shade of the Prowler’s purple, but it was still the flashiest one in my childhood car drawer.

A Fuchsia Ford
This is the best purple car.
Technically, Ford did sell one purple GT. That’s enough for $kaycog’s mystical Ford GT powers to track down, though, and enough for inclusion on this list.

A Shifting Skyline
Midnight Purple R34 GTR
The classic, the unimpeachable, Midnight Purple. One of the most recognizable car colors of all time, and one of the most sought-after in dips and wraps. Nissan’s brought it back in small numbers for the R35, so the ball is now in Ford’s court to make a new Mystichrome Shelby.

A Dark Orchid Diablo
“Lambo Thirty” purple on the Diablo SE30. Got to see one in person at Amelia Island in 2020. The lighting couldn’t have been more perfect to bring this finish’s best tones out.

You can’t make a list of purple cars without including the Diablo. I’ve checked, it’s right there in the Geneva Conventions, and some claim the law has its roots all the way back in the Magna Carta. A wild prediction for 13th-century lawmakers to make, but a purple Lamborghini is pretty wild on its own.

A Grape Gremlin

Yes. This. I’ve always wanted a purple Gremlin.
The Gremlin gets a bad rap, I’ve decided in the absence of any evidence. It’s a reasonably-sized economy car, whose looks have circled back around to being interesting. Would you rather drive this, or a C-HR?

The right answer is every answer. You can’t go wrong with a purple car, regardless of make and model. If your car is any kind of violet hue, rejoice — you made the right choice.
