Mercedes-Benz is moving full steam ahead into electrification with a slew of new EVs, including sedans and crossovers. At the same time, the Mercedes-AMG is still cranking out its usual ultra-powerful machinery, while Mercedes-Maybach will cater to deeper-pocketed folks who desire more cachet and exclusivity. Here’s what to expect from Mercedes-Benz in 2023, with models listed in alphabetical order.
Across the model line, the Mercedes me connect Store is now online, allowing owners to buy products through over-the-air updates, such as MBUX navigation and a dashcam, or subscribe to services such as remote engine start or live traffic updates.
Mercedes-AMG GT
Both the Mercedes-Benz GT Coupe and Roadster have bit the dust. The coupe should eventually return, but the Roadster is replaced by the SL in the brand’s lineup.
Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe
No big changes either regarding the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, whose lineup includes the AMG GT 43 with a turbo 3.0L inline-six (362 hp, 369 pound-feet) and the AMG GT 53 that adds an electric supercharger (429 hp, 384 pound-feet). The GT 63 gets the twin-turbo 4.0L V8 (575 hp, 590 pound-feet), and so does the GT 63 S (630 hp, 664 pound-feet), which can also hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. The 2023 AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE will arrive in North America over the course of the year with a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 and an electric motor, joining hands to produce 831 horsepower and 1,033 pound-feet of torque. For now, the only model available in Canada in this bunch is the GT 53 4MATIC+ 4-Door Coupe. For 2023, the GT 63 and GT 63 S get a facelift and a standard AIR RIDE CONTROL+ suspension, along with MANUFAKTUR Signature interior upholsteries and exterior paint colours, and a new 21-inch alloy wheel design.
Mercedes-AMG ONE
The Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar that was revealed back in 2017 is finally in production. There are 275 lucky buyers of this wild ride worldwide, including several in the United States and a few in Canada. The ONE boasts 1,063 horsepower through its F1-derived, PHEV powertrain consisting of a turbo 1.6L V6 engine and four electric motors.
Mercedes-AMG SL
The current-generation Mercedes-AMG SL was introduced last year, ditching its power-folding hard top for a power fabric top, along with new interior and exterior styling and more technological content. Developed and sold exclusively under the Mercedes-AMG arm, the new SL is now a 2+2, offered with a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 engine with two output levels. The AMG SL 55 (469 hp, 516 pound-feet of torque) is available in the United States, but not in Canada, while the AMG SL 63 (577 hp, 590 pound-feet) is said to blast from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. For the 2023 model year, the SL adds a Gray soft top option, as well as an exclusive MANUFAKTUR STYLE Crystal White/Black Nappa leather interior.
Mercedes-Benz A-Class
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been dropped in both sedan (U.S. and Canada) and hatchback (Canada only) body styles. The entry-level Benz is now the CLA.
Mercedes-Benz CLA
The Mercedes-Benz CLA four-door coupe receives no changes for the 2023 model year. The lineup consists of the CLA 250 and CLA 250 4MATIC with their turbocharged 2.0L four (221 hp, 258 pound-feet) as well as the AMG CLA 35, boasting a higher-output turbo 2.0L four (302 hp, 295 pound-feet). The range-topping Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 gets an even more powerful 2.0L four (382 hp, 354 pound-feet).
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
An all-new generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan arrived for the 2022 model year. The C300 and C3004MATIC are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four (255 hp, 295 pound-feet) that now features 48V mild hybrid tech that offers a temporary boost of 20 hp and 148 pound-feet. In addition to new bodywork and a revised interior, the new C-Class received more advanced safety features, and the U.S. market also gets new Premium, Exclusive and Pinnacle trim levels with incremental equipment levels. The Mercedes-AMG C 43 is arriving for 2023, equipped with a 2.0L inline-four fed by an electric exhaust-gas turbocharger (402 hp, 369 pound-feet) and 48V mild hybrid tech that provides a temporary boost of 13 hp. The blown four replaces the previous gen’s 385-hp, twin-turbo 3.0L V6. The range-topping Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE is expected for the 2024 model year with a hybrid powertrain consisting of the C 43’s turbo 2.0L four, a rear-axle electric motor, a 6.1 kWh battery pack and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, for a combined output of 671 hp and 752 pound-feet of torque. The automaker claims a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.3 seconds.
Meanwhile, the C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet soldier on with no changes, their lineup including the C300 and C300 4MATIC (255 hp, 273 pound-feet) as well as the Mercedes-AMG C 43 (385 hp, 384 pound-feet).
Mercedes-Benz CLS
The big news for 2023 regarding the Mercedes-Benz CLS, or the only news, is that metallic paint is now standard. The four-door coupe is available as the CLS 450 4MATIC that’s equipped with a turbocharged 3.0L inline-six (362 hp, 369 pound-feet) with mild hybrid tech that can add a temporary 21-horsepower boost. As these lines are being written, the Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 variant and its turbo 3.0L inline-six (429 hp, 384 pound-feet) is still offered in Canada, but not in the U.S.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Redesigned for the 2021 model year, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is available in E 350 and E 350 4MATIC variants with a turbo 2.0L four (255 hp, 273 pound-feet), in E 450 4MATIC form with a mild hybrid turbocharged 3.0L six (362 hp, 369 pound-feet), and the AMG E 53 with a mild hybrid turbo 3.0L six (429 hp, 384 pound-feet). Meanwhile, the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are offered in E 450, E 450 4MATIC and AMG E 53 variants. The E-Class Wagon is available as the E 450 All-Terrain with a more rugged look and a raised suspension, along with the AMG E 63 S wagon equipped with a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 (603 hp, 627 pound-feet). As usual, the Canadian market gets AWD as standard. For 2023, the E 450 4MATIC and E 53 sedans, coupes and cabriolets get standard metallic paint, while the E 53 variants benefit from a standard Nappa leather interior. The E-Class wagon is blessed with metallic paint as well, in addition to Nappa leather for the E 63 S.
Mercedes-Benz EQB
The Mercedes-Benz EQB is here. The EQB 300 4MATIC is offered in the United States, but not Canada, develops 225 horsepower and 288 pound-feet of torque, while its 70.7 kWh battery pack provides a driving range estimated at 243 miles or 391 km. the EQB 350 4MATIC serves up 288 hp and 384 pound-feet, while its 70.5 kWh battery yields a driving range of 227 miles or 356 km. Pricing starts at $54,500 in the U.S. and at $75,700 in Canada. Moving forward, all new U.S. models across Mercedes-Benz’s lineup – including the EQB – will be offered with three trim levels: Premium, Exclusive and Pinnacle.
Mercedes-Benz EQE Sedan
The new, midsize Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan arrived in late 2022, and four variants are offered. The EQE 300+ (288 hp, 417 pound-feet) includes a 90.6 kWh battery for a driving range of 305 miles or 491 km, while the EQE 300 4MATIC (288 hp, 564 pound-feet) gets a range of 260 miles or 418 km. The EQE 500 4MATIC upgrades to a powertrain with 402 hp and 633 pound-feet, along with a range of 260 miles or 418 km, and the performance-focused AMG EQE 4MATIC belts out 617 hp and 701 pound-feet, providing 0-60 mph dashes of 3.2 seconds and range of 225 miles or 362 km.
Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV
Hot on the heels of the sedan, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV will arrive soon, with a choice of four variants. The EQE 350+ and EQE 350 4MATIC get 288 hp and a 90.6 kWh battery pack, while the EQE 500 4MATIC serves up 402 hp. The AMG EQE 4MATIC belts out up to 677 horsepower and will feature all the model line’s gadgetry, including an AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension, rear-axle steering, 22-inch wheels and a digital dashboard that extends across the front passenger compartment.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the brand’s flagship EV sedan. In addition to the rear-wheel-drive EQS 450+ (329 hp, 417 pound-feet) and its driving range of 350 miles or 563 km, a new EQS 450 4MATIC has been added for 2023 (335 hp, 590 pound-feet) with AWD and a driving range estimated at 340 miles or 547 km. The EQS 580 4MATIC (516 hp, 631 pound-feet) also features a driving range of 340 miles or 547 km. Meanwhile, the high-performance AMG EQS 4MATIC (649 hp, 700 pound-feet) has an overboost function with up to 751 hp and 752 pound-feet on tap, and its 0-60 mph acceleration is pegged at 3.4 seconds. Its driving range is set at 277 miles or 446 km. All these variants are equipped with a 107.8 kWh battery pack. For now, only the EQS 580 and AMG EQS are available in Canada. The 2023 model year brings improved rear-seat comfort, rear compartment lighting, a new 20-inch AMG alloy wheel design and an Exterior Sound Experience system with configurable door lock and charging confirmation sounds.
Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is the brand’s biggest and poshest all-electric utility so far. The U.S.-only rear-wheel-drive EQS 450+ gets a two-motor setup (355 hp, 419 pound-feet) and a 108.4 kWh battery pack for a driving range of 305 miles or 491 km, while the EQS 450 4MATIC (355 hp, 590 pound-feet) boasts a range of 285 miles or 459 km on a single charge. The range-topping EQS 580 4MATIC (536 hp, 633 pound-feet) also has a range of 285 miles or 459 km.
Mercedes-Benz G-Class
Topping the brand’s range of utility vehicles is the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which enters the 2023 model year with no changes as these lines are being written. In North America, it’s available as the G 550 with a twin-turbo V8 (416 hp, 450 pound-feet of torque) and as the AMG G 63 (577 hp, 627 pound-feet). A bunch of MANUFAKTUR paint colours were added over the course of the 2022 model year, extending the SUV’s customization options.
Mercedes-Benz GLA
The Mercedes-Benz GLA is available in GLA 250 and GLA 250 4MATIC variants, equipped with a turbo 2.0L four (221 hp, 258 pound-feet of torque), while the AMG GLA 35 (302 hp, 295 pound-feet) and AMG GLA 45 (382 hp, 354 pound-feet) receive higher outputs with the same engine displacement. The subcompact crossover gets no significant changes for the 2023 model year.
Mercedes-Benz GLB
The Mercedes-Benz GLB is a slightly bigger subcompact model, available with three rows of seats for a capacity of up to seven passengers, and it’s offered in GLB 250 and GLB 250 4MATIC configurations, equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four engine (221 hp, 258 pound-feet of torque). The sportier AMG GLB 35 is part of the lineup as well, with a higher-output turbo 2.0L engine (302 hp, 295 pound-feet). No significant changes have been announced for 2023.
Mercedes-Benz GLC
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is the company’s best-selling vehicle in both the U.S. and Canada, and the SUV variant receives a thorough redesign for 2023. The crossover benefits from a more modern design, a reworked interior with new seat upholstery, in addition to new paint colors and alloy wheel designs. It also gets the latest iteration of the MBUX infotainment system. The new GLC 300 and GLC 300 4MATIC SUVs include a turbo 2.0L four (255 hp, 295 pound-feet of torque) that now features mild hybrid tech for short bursts of extra power (23 hp and 148 pound-feet of torque) and reduced fuel economy. There are no AMG GLC SUV trims for 2023. Meanwhile, the GLC Coupe soldiers on as the GLC 300 4MATIC, equipped with a turbo 2.0L four (255 hp, 273 pound-feet), and as the AMG GLC 43 with a twin-turbo V6 (385 hp, 384 pound-feet). The AMG GLC 63 and AMG GLC 63 S are out for the 2023 model year, but the GLC 300 receives a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as standard.
Mercedes-Benz GLE
Also available in classic SUV and four-door Coupe body styles, the Mercedes-Benz GLE heads into 2023 with standard metallic paint from the GLE 450 trim up as the most significant change. The GLE 350 and GLE 350 4MATIC are equipped with a turbo 2.0L four (255 hp, 273 pound-feet of torque), while the GLE 450 4MATIC relies on the turbocharged 3.0L six with mild hybrid tech (362 hp, 369 pound-feet). The AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ boasts a mild-hybrid turbo 3.0L six (429 hp, 384 pound-feet), the GLE 580 4MATIC gets a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 (483 hp, 516 pound-feet), while the AMG GLE 63 S SUV is out for 2023. On the other hand, the GLE Coupe is available in Canada-only AMG GLE 43 4MATIC (362 hp, 369 pound-feet) and in GLE 53 4MATIC+ (429 hp, 384 pound-feet) editions, both featuring turbocharged 3.0L inline-sixes that features a mild hybrid assist system. The U.S.-only AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ gets the twin-turbo V8 (603 hp, 627 pound-feet). The 2024 models will get a mid-cycle refresh.
Mercedes-Benz GLS
For the 2023 model year, the Mercedes-Benz GLS gets a standard panoramic roof and standard metallic paint. The lineup consists of the GLS 450 4MATIC with a mild-hybrid turbo 3.0L six (362 hp, 369 pound-feet), the GLS 580 4MATIC with a mild-hybrid twin-turbo 4.0L V8 (483 hp, 516 pound-feet) and the AMG GLS 63 4MATIC+ (603 hp, 627 pound-feet). The S-Class of SUVs also includes the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 in its lineup with an exclusive twin-turbo 4.0L V8 (550 hp, 538 pound-feet). No changes this year for the Maybach variant.
Mercedes-Benz Metris
The Mercedes-Benz Metris van gets no changes for 2023 for its final year in North America. It’s available in Cargo and Passenger configurations, equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four that develops 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Completely redesigned for 2021, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class drops the short-wheelbase S 500 this year. The long-wheelbase S 500 4MATIC is equipped with a turbo 3.0L inline-six (429 hp, 384 pound-feet of torque), while the long-wheelbase S 580 gets an twin-turbo 4.0L V8 (496 hp, 516 pound-feet). As is the case in other Benz models, these EQ Boost engines can produce short bursts of 21 extra hp and 184 pound-feet. The extra-long wheelbase Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is available in S 580 4MATIC configuration (496 hp, 516 pound-feet), while the S 680 4MATIC variant with a twin-turbo 6.0L V12 (621 hp, 664 pound-feet) joined the lineup later in the 2022 model year. The 2023 model year brings more personalization options with MANUFAKTUR paint colours and upholsteries.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter received a new engine, a new nine-speed automatic transmission and a new AWD system for 2022. The turbocharged gasoline 2.0L inline-four (188 hp, 258 pound-feet) serves as the base powerplant, while the turbo-diesel 2.0L four is offered in standard output (168 hp, 295 pound-feet) and higher output (208 hp, 332 pound-feet) variants. The fully electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter has been introduced, built in South Carolina and featuring a 113 kWh battery pack that provides an optimistic European WLTP driving range of about 248 miles or 400 km. Two electric motor choices are offered, one with 134 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, the other with 201 hp and 295 pound-feet. The eSprinter arrives in the second half of 2023.
